In this study, we investigated the effect of avatar design on the perception of sign language animation display. Signed sentence expressionswerecomparativelyevaluatedusinganaturalandan anime-style avatar model of three different clothing colors and patternstodetermineeachdesignparameter’sinfluenceoncomprehensibility,naturalnessanduseraffinity.Resultsshowthatplain settledcolorclothingwasperceivedasmostfavorable,andthatthe naturalavatarwasclearlypreferredovertheanime-styleavataras aninformantofthesignedsentencecontent.
